Save our Legal Aid - Share your story
The Law Society is calling on government to invest in and save legal aid. By sharing your story in the campaign, you can help create this change.
Legal aid is a public service – one as vital to our communities as education and healthcare. It should be there for everyone who needs it, because justice needs a level playing field.
But we know that after decades of underfunding by our government, many people are left without legal support, facing an uphill struggle to access justice.
We are looking for real life stories to help deepen people's understanding of the importance of investing in legal aid and the impact it has on our lives.
Your story could help shed light on barriers to justice and fuel the campaign to remove them.
Sharing your experiences
We are looking for people in England and Wales who are over 18 years old and have experience of trying to access legal aid for help with legal costs in the following areas:
If you have lived experience of the above areas and your issue is no longer subject to ongoing legal proceedings, we’d love to hear from you.
If you’d like to share your story, please fill in the form below.
A member of the Law Society team will contact you to ask for more information and discuss how you’d like to get involved in the campaign. Not every story will be suitable for sharing publicly but they will all provide us with valuable information for our campaign.
We will talk you through what happens next, answer any questions and support you through the process.
If I choose to share my story, how will it be shared?
This is up to you – we will discuss different options to ensure you are happy with how and where your story is shared.
This could include sharing your story in a report or social media post or asking you to speak to a journalist about your experiences.
We will always ask your permission before sharing your story. You can change your mind at any time but if your story has already been published and shared more widely, it may not be possible to remove it completely. We will ensure however that we do not publish it again.
Can I remain anonymous?
Yes. You can choose to have your real name published with your story or remain anonymous but if there are other individuals or children connected to your story, we may ask you to use a pseudonym to protect their privacy.
What happens to my data on this form?
Access will be restricted to members of the Save our Legal Aid Campaign team at the Law Society who will review the information you’ve provided and use your contact details to get in touch with you about the Campaign. We will not share your contact details or the information you have provided with anyone else unless it has been anonymised or we have your prior permission to share it.
